I finally stopped into the new Isotopes comics location in Hayes valley last week, and man, is it *slick*! Lots of space, great selection, lounge area, and it's finally close enough to my house that I can actually make it a regular stop.

It's only been open at the new location for a couple weeks, but it looks like (cue scary music) something is happening while proprietor James Sime is away at ComicCon in San Diego. What could it be? I hope Mr. Simes is OK...

BLOOD BUCKET BALLYHOO

This summer season Hypnodrome Horror Revue looks like a lotta fun. I had a blast at the Evil Dead: Live production during the Hole in the Head film fest, and this seems like a great alternative (at least until the evil dead live crew unleashes "Re-Animator: Live" later this year). Looks bloody!

The world's only Grand Guignol triple terror stage show is back! Following the spectacular success of last fall's wildly popular Welcome to the Hypnodrome (a Halloween treat held over till Christmas!) Global Frequency

Here's a little tip... if you want to see one of the best tv shows to come along in ages, you'll have to familiarize yourself with bittorrent, because it has never aired, and probably never will. Hit your favorite torrent tracker site, and search for "Global Frequency." If you are already familiar with the comic book series with that title by Warren Ellis, than you know what to expect. If not, check out the link below for background info. And hey, maybe it will always be this one episode, but you never know... it seems like lately the ability of fans to resurrect shows that were for all intents and purposes *dead,* has developed into an incredibly powerful force.

(Yet) Another Hole in the Head

My kinda movies... SF Indiefest presents (Yet) Another Hole in the Head, 8 nights of horror, sci-fi & fantasy at the Roxie here in San Francisco. Perhaps best of all, the stage production of Evil Dead: Live will be presented on June 8th at the Victoria Theater.

Evil Dead: Live is an over-the-top, theatrical presentation that remains faithful and pays tribute to the true essence of the Evil Dead Series as created by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell. Containing elements from all three movies, Evil Dead: Live follows the story of Ash as he unknowingly unleashes the dark powers of the Necromonicon and must battle zombies and demons from hell to save his soul. It's loud. It's live. It's scary. And it's going to get real bloody.

Stereo Total at Bimbos (Thursday, May 26, 2005)

One of my favorite bands to see live, Stereo Total are playing at Bimbos on Thursday, May 26. If you get the chance, I highly recommend seeing them. They are touring to promote their new album, “Do the Bambi,” which I've had on heavy rotation since I picked it up a couple weeks ago.

$25 free from GreenZap

GreenZap is being set up as an easier alternative to PayPal. It goes live in the summer, but if you sign up through this greenzap link (which is a referral link), it seems they’ll drop $25 into your account when they launch. Apparently PayPal did something similar when they launched.

H2G2 is Bad...

Damn. :(

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won't believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean, you might think that The Phantom Menace was a hopelessly misguided attempt to reinvent a much-loved franchise by people who, though well-intentioned, completely failed to understand what made the original popular - but that's just peanuts to the Hitchhiker's movie. Listen.

Fox's Arrested Development May Be Cancelled

I find it difficult to stand up in defense of a television show, but one of my favorites, Arrested Development on Fox is in danger of being cancelled due to poor ratings. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you watch it and love it, sign the SAVE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!! Petition. If you couldn't care less... well good for you. TV's bad, mmm'kay?

Nina Hagen in SF @ DNA 02/09/05

Finally saw her show in SF the other night. SHE IS AMAZING!!! What an awesome performer; she was absolutely wonderful. Sweet, powerful, beautiful, ageless, hypnotic, hilarious, energetic... wow! The screaming drunk Russian guy couldn't even dampen my enthusiasm for the show, and I am so glad I got to see her live. If you get the chance, DON'T MISS HER SHOW! She will blow you away. The opening act, Jill tracy, was quite spectacular as well. All in all an excellent evening.

Upcoming.org

Now that I'm back in SF, and there are actually things to do (almost too many at times), I have found that keeping track of everything is a bit difficult. I am trying out Upcoming.org, which is a collaborative event calendar, where you can post or add events to your calendar. It is broken down by metro area, so if you in the SF Bay area, you can see where I might be showing up anytime soon. Very cool, and you can view it in an RSS reader or as a webcalendar subscription in iCal. Excellent service, I definitely recommend it.
