The FTC's website on Credit
Starting tomorrow (actually seems to be working today too) The FTC's website on Credit begins providing all US citizens with access to a free annual credit report, provided by the top three US credit reporting agencies. The service begins on the west coast, and will roll out to the east coast by September of 2005. I'm in San Diego, so it's already working for me. I highly recommend taking advantage of this new service, especially the way identity theft is running rampant on such a large scale. Considering how protective the agencies have been with this consumer info (and charging us for info that should available freely), it's great to see this actually get started. A little tip... they allow you to receive a credit report from each of the three agencies once per year. You have the option of getting all three at once, which may be helpful if you want to compare discrepancies, but you'll have to wait a year to access them again. You can also choose to receive just one, and then you can access the others every 4 months to keep yourself up to date. I chose the latter. And remember... this is just western states right now. You can see when your area will be available by viewing the map on the FTC website.Posted by nothingistrue at November 30, 2004 12:00 PM
