SILVER RECOVERED FROM GROUND ZERO!

“Freedom Tower” Silver Dollar
WASHINGTON, D.C. Corp. ID Center, Thursday, 8:55 AM - Today history is being made! For the first time ever, a legally authorized government issue silver dollar has been struck to commemorate the World Trade Center and the new Freedom Tower being erected in its place. It's the U.S. territorial minting of the 2004 “Freedom Tower” Silver Dollar from CNMI. Most importantly, each coin has been created using .999 Pure Silver recovered from Ground Zero!
(emphasis mine.)

The United States Mint has issued a press release. I can't believe that this company is so amazingly crass. More story here, including a clip from The Daily Show featuring the coin commercial.

Hmmm, funny (or not so funny) that Google is advertising that very coin on this page. Guess that's a problem with adwords, eh?

hmmm... not funny. but google ads allow URL filters, so that ad should be removed momentarily. thanks for pointing it out.

Federal agency are investigating this for some time and unless all customers will get a full refond for the coin and the shiping and handling plus compensation money this company will be fined by the laws of the United States Of America states: Under the United States Constitution, Congress has the exclusive power to coin money of the United States, including the striking of commemorative coins. Congress has delegated its authority to mint and issue coins to the Secretary of Treasury, and Congress requires the Secretary to carry out these duties at the United States Mint. Therefore, the United States Mint is the only government entity in the United States with the authority to coin money. Clearly, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. insular possession, does not have the authority to coin its own money. i request your responce on my email as soon as possible because actions against you may be taken by the court of law.

What is so bad, wrong with a commemerative coin to have a piece of history and ,to never forget our fallen citizens, and service men and women that gave there lives, just the controversy about it's creation will make for historic value,~~ only in america.

I know the morbid ness of this is obviously the greatest issue here, (as well it should be), but please someone correct me if I am wrong, but are there not also criminal issues here as well? Being that they claim that the silver used in these coins are that that were found in a bank’s vault underneath the ruins, would not the bank want their silver back??? Being that most banks are government affiliated I would assume that it would be a federal offense not to return it. That would be just as if I were to walk down a street and happen to come across a bag of money that a robber dropped just after robbing a bank, if I chose not to return it and the authorities got wind of me being in possession of it I know I would be facing some major criminal charges for not returning it. Since this company obviously has no morale standards I do not see why someone does not try to pursue them with criminal charges.

Anybody notice - this coin is plated, not solid silver. A little silver goes a long way when its used like this. There appears to be no end to the deception used in this ad.

yep. they're totally bogus.

I purchased this coin. Is it a fraud or not? I am not clear if these are suppositions or factually true. How may I find out the truth of authenticity. thanks

the fact that they lied about such a tragic event in US history for their own benefit is wrong. the families of someone who died in that attack might have bought one to remember their relatives. The coin will have some value in the future because of what it depicts if for nothing else.

Does anyone know the phone number to call these people. I ordered this coin three weeks ago and still haven't received it yet

I was sucked into purchasing two of these coins. My Chase Mastercard will NOT credit my account, even though I have the newspaper article that clearly states this is a fraud. I did receive the coins after a few weeks but would like to return them. I tried contacting the coin place myself and the recording said "due to a high demand of calls your wait will be at least 20 minutes". Needless to say I ended the call. Please help with how to get Chase to remove the charge! Thanks.

I was one of the "taken in" ones who actually ordered 4 of the "Ground O Coins". I have not heard one word from them or recieved the coins. The order was placed on my credit card and I will be canceling that order tomorrow! Does anyone know how to verify if there are any actual coins being sent out.

Just call me,

"Gullible"

The moxie of this company is beyond belief! I was one of the many who was bamboozled into thinking this was a great way to honor those who died at Ground O. Well, when I found out that it was all a farce I wrote my credit card company and canceled the order and then FINALLY got through to the Mint to inform them that I was canceling the order, and was told by TWO of their employees that there was a Court Order prohibiting them from sending out any more of the "so called" coins. Has you seen these things? They are smaller than a nickel! At least the gold one that they went ahead and sent me after I had been told by the company they were not ALLOWED to send any out !!!! Well, now it's cost me $10 out of my pocket to get it sent back to them ~~ I had to insure it. I was told they would not accept it back unless it was insured ! Talk about guts! This company has them! I personally feel we should file a class action law-suit against them for false advertising and for screwing me and not even kissing me before hand! I can only hope that someone at the company will have many sleepless nights from this travesty that has been done not only to the memory of those who died at Ground O but to all those like myself who have to struggle to make ends meet each month. I scrimped and saved to get my son something special for Christmas. Well the National Collector's Mint sure burst that bubble! Thanks for nothing but a hassle and added heartache that I did not need!

well the guts of this company! i ordered two of these coins back in the beginning of october and saw nothing or heard nothing from them. tonight was the first time i heard anything about them being a fraud. my charge card has been charged though. i agree with people i think we should file a class action suit against this company and lets send a clear message to companies so this will not happen again. the people involved in this scam should be ashamed of themselves to use such a tragedy like this to profit from
